The main chunk of this graphic novel is about a typical loner-type named Mizuno and a ghost named Mamoru. Mamoru was a classmate of Mizuno's when he was alive, and apparently after death regretted never kissing him, and therefore haunts him as a ghost. Fortunately, he's the kind of ghost that is actually tangible. This makes SO MUCH SENSE.Beyond My Touch - Mizuno and Mamoru

This manga-ka (Maeda Tomo) seems to have a thing for M-names too. There are two short stories at the end, and in one of them is a character named Minoru...so be aware that it's an unrelated story from the main one (I was confused for a bit there, but maybe I'm just dumb).

Anyway, so the first/main story is about a guy falling in love with a tangible ghost (wtf?), then a perky blonde guy who tries to make friends with a moody guy who then hits on him (typical), and then a guy whose obsession with another boy comes out in his cooking...he's desperate to try and get the other boy to say that his desserts are yummy (wtf?).

Maeda-sensei definitely has a thing for the perky, energetic, cheerful (aka genki) character contrasting with the darker, less friendly character, because the main story and the second story are this dynamic. In the third story, both boys are energetic and insane.

Beyond My Touch - Mamoru and Mizuno!

The art is cute. The boys are all young (early high school, and they look it), but as it's only PG-rated it's no big deal. The stories are all very cute and predictable, as usual, despite the manga-ka's attempts to throw in some unique dynamics. These unique dynamics feel kind of contrived to me, though.

I mean, this one character's in love with a ghost, but then it magically turns out all the supernatural elements that would make that relationship difficult are simply untrue. Thus, the twist becomes just a weak attempt at forcing the two boys together, really.

That aside, it's still cute, fluffy boylove, and the art is decent.

Manga-ka: Tomo Maeda
Censorship: N/A
Warnings: Really messed up versions of ghosts, misunderstandings between friends, really yummy-looking desserts.
