I’d been drooling over the art in the Japanese version for a while. I was very excited to see an English version come out. The story takes place in Renaissance Italy. The main character, Cesare Borgia, is a real, historical figure (see Wikipedia entry). I was amused to find out that the little girl in this story is the same Lucrezia Borgia that I have written art history papers about.

In this alternate history, Cesare is haunted by demons that will someday try to devour his soul. Though his slide towards darkness has probably only begun, Cesare is a strong and likeable character. I think we are going to be dealing with a lot of UST between Cesare and Chiaro, the ‘angel’ whose touch 'cleanses the evil' in his soul. This character dynamic almost seem made for fanfic authors to play with. The mangaka did some of the illustrations for the BL game and manga Gakuen Heaven. So I have hope the story will turn out wonderfully smutty, but, in either case, this looks like it’s going to be a great series.



This is the best manga art I’ve ever seen. The plot is well paced and comes across clearly. Since the plot is undoubtedly going to become complicated, the easily distinguishable characters and strong storytelling is going to be important.
