I feel bad that I was getting so slow on the extended version of the Iris Print, Yaoi Press, and Broccoli panels (especially the first two). Fortunately, two things: today I actually have no plans after work, and will therefore have some *time*. And the second thing? Iris print pretty much did my work for me by sending me an awesome recap/update on all of their stuff mentioned at Yaoi Con.

So check the jump for information, including new titles and-- for all you writers out there --a call for submissions for their new upcoming anthology!

Aaaaand here is our Yaoi Con discussion thread.

Iris's Debut at Yaoi-con '06

Iris Print's convention debut was at Yaoi-con 2006 this weekend, October 20-22 in San Francisco, California. For sale at the con were all three of Iris's first titles, Connections, A Strong and Sudden Thaw, and When Worlds Collide , as well as a few other items, including the 2007 Boys' Love Calendar.

The message at this convention was clear: readers are hungry for boys' love fiction. Connections was the most popular of the three books over the weekend, with Thaw coming in a close second. Thaw was especially popular on Sunday, when shoppers were looking for an innocent-seeming read for the plane ride home.

At the Iris Print panel on Sunday, two new books were announced for 2007: Home On the Range, a graphic novel written by C.B. Potts and illustrated by Vitor Negreiro, and an as-of-yet unnamed short story anthology with a "fairy tale and fantasy" theme. A call for submissions for the anthology will be appearing on boyslovebooks.com by the end of the week.

Also at the panel, sample pages were shown from Only Words, Paintings of You, and Home On the Range, and of course, prizes were given out. Most of the questions at the panel were about submissions. The best advice for interested writers and artists? Iris Print is a small publisher, and is generally open to unusual projects--if you have a story that doesn't quite fit the submissions guidelines, query about it first, and be ready to present a convincing pitch. For more about Iris at the con, Publishers Weekly Comics Week has a convention report with more details. (YS note-- or read ours!)

All in all, it was a fun convention, and we're looking forward to many more years to come!

Helpers David and Kelly work diligently (or possibly read smut--who can tell?) at the booth on Sunday.

Call For Submissions

As promised at the Iris Print panel on Sunday, the call for submissions has gone up for the fairy tale and fantasy anthology scheduled for Summer of 2007. So writers, sharpen your pencils and clean your keyboards, and we look forward to seeing your stories! (YS note-- for submissions info, click here...the link they included gave me an error.)

Free Book Winners

Congrats to Yaoi-con attendees Briar, Fufufu, Manko, Melinda, Planet Slash, and RYLL--they all won a free book of their choice in our free book drawings. Hope you enjoy the books!

New Reviews

We're very proud to announce that Connections received a 5-star review at Boys Next Door, and a very detailed review has been posted at Uniquely Pleasurable. See what others have to say about this debut anthology!

A Strong and Sudden Thaw also received an excellent review from Uniquely Pleasurable: "This is an excellent novel, however you measure it. It's good science-fiction, it's a good slash/boy's love romance, and a beautiful coming of age story." (YS note-- see our reviews of Connections and Strong and Sudden Thaw)
