| Let's see, there is overuse of screentone, random flowers floating around for no reason, flashbacks, overwrought emotions and a convoluted plot. Yup, it's a standard angsty high school drama. Is there some rule that says these need to use at least 40 different types of screentone? I really need to con Jen into do more of these sort of reviews. |

A letter delivered three years late leads to a misunderstanding between Satoru and Shirou. I wont try to explain the complicated misunderstanding that arises. It makes sense when you read it... or not. Actually, I re-read it twice because I felt like I was missing something. I cannot figure out how Shirou could have misunderstood Satoru's confession of love. I can't get into the story when I feel like I don't understand the seminal event. Yaoi, especially angsty yaoi, doesn't need to make sense. The point is not a logical structure, but all the yummy emotional candy in that structure. So, this flaw is more with me than the book.

If you can gloss over that issue the story is decently well told. Shirou, our seme, is a track star. Satoru is there at every event to take pictures for the school's newspaper. There is distance between our seme and uke for most of the story. Satoru watches the man he loves through the lens of his camera. The third character, Seiichi, is a rival seme who creates even more confusion in hopes of winning the uke Satoru. The three major characters all have different ideas about what is going on.
The art is in the standard high school drama style, but it's good. Busy pages with lots of panels give way to simple compositions with a refreshing amount of negative space during key emotional moments. Many different uses for and types of screentone are showcased.
