Clan of the Nakagamis ( See ANN entry)
Review through vol. 1 (complete), no spoilers.
Sex rating: R.
Art: B-
Story: C
Action: C
OVERALL: C
If this was a volume one, as opposed to a standalone that may or may not continue, I'd give it much better ratings.

| The main story has a student and teacher in an established relationship. Tokio, the teacher, is from a mysterious, super-rich, family that doesn't seem to age. Much of the plot is driven by Tokio's insane, perverted family. Haruka looks older than his teacher, but has a habit of acting very childish. It's nice to have a couple that is silly and lovestruck most of the time, rather than sad and emo. The cover art is much darker than the actual series. | |
There is one problem, it's too short! This volume is padded out with chapters from other series by the mangaka. There is a note saying that Clan of the Nakagamis will likely continue, at least. The main story ends so abruptly that I initially assumed that the next chapter was family back story, or an AU as opposed to something completely separate. There are chapters of four different series in this manga, only one feels like a complete story arc. And no one ever has any sex! What kind of a yaoi is this?
Honestly, this manga left me sad and frustrated. It's not just because the ukes all retain their virginity. Though, some of the ukes look so young I was glad no sex happened. I want to see more of the main story. I don't care about assistant detectives or jewel thieves; I want to see more drunken family parties where people randomly decide to start cosplaying.
The last story "Going to Oikawa-kun's House" was very well done. It's more serious than anything else in this collection, but it's very sweet. I'd love it if it was the first chapter of something ongoing ...
Mangaka: Homerun Ken
Censorship: None needed
Warnings: Shota, incest themes, breaking the fourth wall. |
