Welcome to YaoiSuki!

Let me open this up with a bit of talk about what we are and are not.

We are NOT...
  • ...sixteen-year-old fangirls who squee and jump every time they see a volume of Gravitation on the shelves.
  • ...elitist snobs who hate all the newer fans and the newer works and talk as though a fictional heterosexual relationship is somehow less meaningful than a homosexual one.
  • ...shy about our opinions.

    We ARE...
  • ...two well-read, educated, adult women with a taste for boys' love in all its many forms.

    Our GOAL...
  • ...is to write reviews for anything out there that a BL fan might be interested in, but is unsure about picking up. As more and more yaoi is released in the US, it gets harder for the budget-conscious to make decisions! We'll review anything that's marketed at or of interest to BL fans, including global BL, the occasional "slashable" series, etc.

Legal-related stuff: Due to the adult nature of some of our reviews, reviews of NC-17 materials are only accessible to registered users of the site. If you are not legally permitted to access pornographic materials where you live, do not attempt to access these articles-- for our sake, if nothing else.

History: YaoiSuki was created in February 2006, when I realized that my yaoi reviews on Nante Ne (my old anime review site) were extremely popular. The name is an informal way of saying "I like yaoi," so you can think of it as sort of a Japanese "I ♥ Yaoi" kind of thing.

    Bios:

Jen is the writer behind Nante Ne, a writer and de-facto editor for YaoiSuki, as well as the site maintainer. She is also a freelance writer and full-time web marketer. She continues to live in denial of being an actual fangirl, claiming that there's plenty of het and yuri stuff she likes too. Pfft. You can e-mail Jen at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Jen also has a livejournal.

Jordan was asked to help out with the site due to her clear obsession with all things BL. An independently wealthy weirdo, she has time to spare and graciously agreed to write reviews of the yaoi she's come across-- all for the greater good, of course. Ratings:
We will rate all anime on its story, animation/art, voice acting, and action (as in how hot the boy/boy action is). We will rate manga on art, story, and action. Any other items (e.g. video games), we'll rate on whatever features we think best.
We will also offer an MPAA-style rating, as follows:
G: Only mildly implied romance, no sexual action of any kind-- this'll be a pretty rare rating.
    PG: Kissing and cuddling only.
PG-13: Full on making out, references to sex / sex talk, swearing, possibly mild violence.
R: Sexual activity but not pornographic or explicit, lots of swearing, extremely dark themes (e.g. violent rape)-- but again, NOT explicit.
NC-17: Explicit sexual content-- and we define explicit as extensive sex scenes in which you see all the naughty bits. Technically in MPAA this would be "X," but we've kind of merged X and NC-17 as one item (following the fanfiction world).

We will grade the materials on an A-F scale, with an added grade: WTF. The WTF grade means that the anime or manga is so out-there on the subject we're grading (e.g. story) that we don't even know how to take it. It's not necessarily bad; it's usually more that either-really-awful-or-really-funny sort of thing. For the record, it's hard to get an A from us, and it's also pretty rare to get a solid F.

Last but not least: We'll put some warnings in at the bottom of every review. For example: underage, BDSM, gross sex, etc-- anything that a BL fan would want to know before picking something up.
