So I had the fortune of finding (and, therefore, buying) copies of "Brother" volumes 1 and 2 in Japanese yesterday and going through them. I'm not going to give a full review (give me a break, I don't read THAT much Japanese!), but here are my thoughts.
The art in volume 2 is definitely different from the art in volume 1. It feels like probably a lot of time passed between the two volumes (I also have the sense that the original Brother volume was supposed to be stand-alone, and then the manga-ka made a second), and the manga-ka's style had changed a bit over time.
I wouldn't call the art in volume 2 worse. Definitely less hot! But it's not bad art.
The story, on the other hand...(some minor spoilers, assuming that I am reading everything correctly).
FYI, according to Slytherat on our forums, Liquid Passion will be scanlating volume 2. We'll review both volumes fully then. ^-^

I obviously don't have a perfect sense of what's going on, but it seems to be a collection of short stories about the couple (Asuka and Yui, uke and seme respectively). The plot of ALL of these stories follow this pattern: Asuka and Yui have some sort of misunderstanding, leaving Asuka to angst about the whole thing; Asuka does something dumb that makes him (and/or Yui) understand the underlying problem; they work it out with makeup sex.
The only story that seems to be at all different is the last one, in which Asuka decides that he and Yui can't have sex anymore (I'm pretty sure that's what's going on). I'm not sure how they work that one out, but you can bet your booty it doesn't last long.
So. Compared to what I sense of the first volume's story (need to get the English of this one already, what's up with me?), the second's stories are definitely inferior and kind of shallow-seeming.
But it doesn't seem stark enough for DQ to refuse to go with it...but then, I can't read it all that well. Hmm.
