Well, we're here! We had to scrap one short leg of our trip already-- we were going to go to Fukuoka, but then we found out that it takes about ten hours to get there instead of four, and we were only going to be there one night, so we cancelled and stayed in Osaka instead...

Osaka was nice-- we stayed in a great hostel that was actually inside of this giant stadium in the middle of a fabulous park. But Osaka isn't so much geared towards the tourist, or at least the area we were in wasn't...we didn't even see any other gaijin, except for the two(! only TWO!) that were at our hostel.
We're now in Kyoto, which is MUCH more our style. We've already visited the local Animate store (for the uninitiated, Animate is the store that sells all those yummy anime goodies that we don't get stateside unless convention dealers bring them.

Today we're going to go a-shrining, mostly, and we'll also see a textile museum and the Imperial Palace (though we probably won't bother applying for permission to go inside the latter-- we'll just look at the supposedly gorgeous park in front of it).
We've also already found a fabulous honya (bookstore) that sold used yaoi manga. ♥ I've picked up Koi wa Itsumo Arashi no You Ni volumes 4 and 5, plus apparently some kind of bonus extra volume? (Doesn't have a number-- actually, volume 1 doesn't either, but this is definitely not volume 1 reprinted.)
We are trying to be careful not to pick up anything that might be conceived as too shouta. Though Jordan is being more careful about that than I am...she's actually going to cut out a page of one of her manga that she thinks is too shota. (Koi wa Itsumo is underage, for sure, and very hardcore, but it's not shota in my mind, so I'm letting it be...I don't think they're going to be anywhere near as thorough as Jordan fears.)
Expect more updates soon! (Especially after we get to Tokyo!) Also Jordan plans on finishing a couple of reviews while we're here (the ones that were supposed to be in the queue I mentioned earlier ~_~ so expect those.) |
