You may have noticed a few changes around here at YaoiSuki. That's because we've moved to a new host, and in the process upgraded and altered a bunch of our features (most notably: embedded wiki and better forums). Unfortunately, we lost our user database in the move, so those of you who were signed up will unfortunately need to sign up again. It's a pretty painless process though!

New Blu license! Over at Mangacast they tell us that Blu has licensed The Takumi-kun Series by Ooya Kazumi and Gotou Shinobu. Blu previously announced a volume of this series, June Pride. I assume this means they now have the rest of the series. Hopefully, we will get confirmation of this soon. Mangacast thinks that they announced the series in honor of our birthday and, well, we agree :) So, thanks Blu!
From Quietisrafel over on the LJ Comm Yaoi_daily_cafe, here is a link to an Asahi Shimbun article (in English) about Fujoshi.
Jen says she picked up a copy of Kitty's Thunderbolt Boys Excite volume 1, and there's a printing error-- one page was printed in two places in the manga, meaning that there's a page missing. So you may want to wait before you buy it. We're still waiting on word from Kitty if it's a problem with the whole print or just one batch, and what (or if) they'll do anything to fix it.
There are some interesting bits of info from the Be Beautiful panel from New York Comic Con. Mangablog did a nice write up here. Apparently, the endlessly complicated Biblos bankruptcy means that they don't actually have the right to Youka Nitta's Embracing Love after volume 6. They are going to Tokyo next month to work on this issue. I don't care who gets those rights, but someone had better buy 'em and get me my Embracing Love.
Ok, this isn't directly yaoi related, but Monthly Shonen Jump is going out of print. Ah, the magazine that launched 10,000 doujinshi. Actually, it's probably inspired many more than that. Thanks to Mangablog for the link.

I've got some bits of news from over the past few days. I put them together in one post so they didn't get lost in all the excitement of our birthday stuff and the birth of Boysenberry Books.
Over at Blu they are wondering where the Macaroni licensing rumor came from. According to editor Shonen-Ai-Samurai "we actually haven't licensed Macaroni." So, now we know it was just a rumor.
Over at Icarus Comics there is a news item about a yaoi mangaka engaging in tax evasion. What interesting is how much "Kaoruko Shinagawa", AKA "Minami Hikawa", is making.
Mangablog posted a link to Ed Chavez giving a report card to Drama Queen. He really, really likes Drama Queen.
This cute yaoi shirt popped up in my Google alerts. So, I thought I'd pass the link along.
From animeOnline it looks like people at New York Comic Con can get Kazuma Kodaka's Midaresomenishi: A Tale of Samurai Love before the rest of us.

Broccoli Gives YS A Bday Gift! |
|
|
|
|
Wednesday, 21 February 2007 |
Well, okay, I guess it COULD be coincidence. Still, Broccoli just sent out a press release confirming the name of their new yaoi line, Boysenberry, and announcing their first three titles:
Delivery Cupid by CJ Michalski (WOOT!)
Pet On Duty by Nase Yamato
Sex Friend by Koreaki Kamuro
Given that every CJ Michalski title I've ever seen was hardcore, and that "Sex Friend" is hardly a teen-friendly title, it looks like those who theorized that Broccoli would go light might be wrong.
Which I am perfectly excited about! ;) Check the jump for covers and the full press release. Wiki entries are pending on the grounds that I am packing for NYC and Jordan is also doing stuff of some kind! Wiki links are now in :)

3 Days to B-Day: April is Indy Month! |
|
|

Wednesday, 21 February 2007 |
Because we always love to take on more work with the time we don't have...this April, we will be doing additional reviews of works by smaller, lesser-known, and/or self publishers. We will also profile smaller publishers and self publishers. This will not slow down or take the place of our usual yaoi review schedule...mostly. For that month, we are only accepting ads by indy and self publishers (two slots are still open).
Ok, so , how are we defining "indy"? Indy isn't really a good word for what we mean, but there really isn't a good word for it. We see companies like Juné, Drama Queen, Yaoi Press, etc, to be the big players in the US BL market. But there are a lot of other companies whose main focus isn't BL, but who publish some anyway, not to mention self publishers and other small/indy presses. That's who we're referring to when we (mis)use the word "indy" in this case.
We are announcing this early so that you lot can post in our forums saying "hey, don't forget about [insert publisher name here]!" We want to make sure we're not missing anyone. We've got enough materials for the month, but we will be posting our general submission guidelines later this week. (Jordan kinda went nuts in the artist alley at Yaoi-con.) We are open to reviewing indy stuff at any time. So if you don't make one of our April review slots, or submit after April, we still might do a review at some point. We have posted submission guidelines, which are applicable for indy month and for just in general.
If you want to request that we do not review your works for any reason, drop us an

Carleton College is having a "Japanese Fan Culture Specialist" give a talk on yaoi doujinshi.
I don't suppose any of you are in that neck of the woods and can let us know how that talk goes? I'd be very interesed to know what she has to say.
