You may have noticed a few changes around here at YaoiSuki. That's because we've moved to a new host, and in the process upgraded and altered a bunch of our features (most notably: embedded wiki and better forums). Unfortunately, we lost our user database in the move, so those of you who were signed up will unfortunately need to sign up again. It's a pretty painless process though!

CPM Breaks Silence on Libre |

So I just heard from my pal gia, who is busy liveblogging at New York Anime Festival. She spent a little bit of time talking with Central Park Media's John O'Donnell and managed to pry word out of him about the company's absence at Yaoi Con and their ordeal with Libre. Here's what she said:
I only spent a few minutes at the CPM booth, and I asked about Kizuna 9. O'Donnell said he had no idea when it would be out at the moment. After a bit more chatting he talked about the Libre issue....it was a sort of impromptu interview, so I'm sorry I don't have stuff word for word! But here's the general idea.
He says that when he paid Biblos up-front for the rights to the various yaoi titles they put out, he acquired the rights for the duration of the contract and that Libre's acquisition of those rights after the demise of Biblos did not cancel that out.
Since putting up their notice, O'Donnell says Libre has not taken any action to settle the matter, and even refuses to sit down with O'Donnell or any other CPM representatives to try and work it out. Libre has not filed a lawsuit. He hopes that Libre will bring their lawyers to the U.S. so that the matter can be settled, but thinks that they are trying to deliberately harm the sales of the books until CPM's license expires so that they can license the series to another company.
As for Yaoi-Con '07, he says that probably due to the Libre issue, they were never approached to get a booth or sponsor the con, so they decided not to invest the money in a con that didn't seem to want them. He also noted that the reason why CPM has been so quiet on the matter up to now is because typically in Japan you don't take these arguments to the public-- but now he seems pretty fed up with the entire matter.
So are we, John-- so are we!
I'll be at their panel on Sunday, at which O'Donnell says the company will have a surprise-- so I'll report back then!
Thanks gia, we love you. ♥

As some of you have noticed, Be Beautiful's Website seems to be more down than up these days. As of the time I am writing this, it is down. The Central Park Media website is down, too. I just placed a call to Central Park Media and was able to get ahold of one of their employees named Stephanie Shelafsky. (I apologize for the fact that her name is likely horribly misspelled.)
Anyway, I asked her about Kizuna 9 and she was able to tell me that the book did not yet have a scheduled publication date. I also left a voice mail for our previous contact there, David Hair. If I hear back from him I will report on anything he says.
So, they do still exist and have at least one employee.

After Yaoi Con I sent off an e-mail to Seven Seas to see if they had any updates for us on their upcoming yaoi line, which currently consists of one title: In God's Arms, by Nekota Yonezou. I just heard back, and the news is really that there's no news for the moment. But I know a few of you were curious, so I figured I'd pass it on anyway:
At present, our yaoi line is still in the planning stages. We will be releasing more information about it and our titles in the coming year.
Thanks,
- Adam Arnold
Seven Seas Entertainment
Well, now's as good a time as any-- anyone got a wishlist? |

For those of you panting for the upcoming Junjou Romantica TV anime, Goo Anime has the character designs for Akihiko, Misaki, Nowaki, Hiroki, You, and Shinobu up. There's also a story summary...a rough translation for those of you who don't know the story from the manga:
"In order to pass his college entrance exams, high school senior Takahashi Misaki is stuck being tutored by his brother's ultra-famous writer friend Usami Akihiko. However, one day Misaki visits Usami's home and he's not there, and Misaki finds boys love novels featuring his brother as the protagonist! It turns out that Usami's side job is writing boys love novels for Marukawa Shoten's "Sapphire" boys love label. However, for the sake of Misaki's brother Shinobu's happiness, Usami has never told him his true feelings, which start to change as Usami spends more time with Misaki. After that, Shinobu is transferred for his work, and Misaki moves in to Usami's mansion. With Usami's work and that unusual home situation, Misaki suffers through his feelings and little by little comes to learn about love." So, how do you think the characters turned out? |

Boy, news sure stacks up quickly these days...
First up: you can stop frantically reloading BoysenberryBooks.com (we know you've been doing it since Yaoi Con. Or, wait, is that just us?): it's finally launched! It's got a blog, contact info, where to buy, etc.
In less joyful website news, we can't help but notice that Be Beautiful's website has been "down for maintenance" for at least 24 hours. That may not mean anything, but since I was posting anyway...
Boys on Boys on Film notes that early copies of Rose of the Rhine are now available. Woot! Smut!
Also, the newest addition to our lineup of English-language yaoi producing companies, Yen Press, is seeking interns, if you're into that sort of thing.
Finally, I just wanted to let you know that we've been working on getting the release list back in shape. :) |
