We got a newsletter from Iris Print this morning. It reads "For one week only, now through April 6, use the coupon code spring07 on any order in the Iris Store to get an amazing 20% off your entire order--even on pre-orders!" You can currently pre-order Only Words and Paintings of You.

They also make mention of a new anthology coming out, called Queer Magic, which will have fantasy and fairy tale stories. So that's exciting, even if you can't pre-order that one yet.

A big thank you goes out to YS user sits, who spotted THIS interesting website: Deux-Press.com.

A quick whois search shows that the website was actually registered to Aurora Publishing, a newbie to the U.S. manga scene that was founded by Japanese manga publisher Ohzora Shuppan.

So it looks like they plan to publish yaoi! And on top of that, they seem to have already licensed Makoto Tateno's "Hate to Love You" (a.k.a. "Kirai Kiraimo"). We've already sent out an e-mail to see what they can tell us about who they are and what they're up to, so you'll hear about it as soon as we do.

Oh, and while we're on Tateno - it looks like her manga Happy Boys is being made into a live-action drama! See here

EDITED TO ADD: Looks like MangaCast actually has the real scoop on this one; check it out here!

Image We got two exciting bits of news out of DMP this morning. The first is that they are bringing Satoru Kannagi, author of Only The Ring Finger Knows and Rin! to Anime Expo!

Also, DMP is hiring. They have posted openings for Production Associate and Licensing/Guest Relations Associate to Monster.com. Helping with licensing? There's a job I wish I was qualified for :)

CPM vs Libre Update PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 March 2007

So we've been waiting for a call from CPM with an update (though we're not holding our breaths). Meanwhile, MangaNews.net's FloatingSakura had a better idea: hey, why not ask Libre what's going on?

That's what she did, and she got a pretty firm answer from them:

"The license agreements for translations of the publications between BIBLOS Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “BIBLOS”) and Central Park Media Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “CPM”) became invalid after April, 2006 when BIBLOS filed for bankruptcy protection.

Any and all translations of our publications by CPM are based upon the above-mentioned terminated agreements.

Moreover, CPM unilaterally continues to publish translations of our publications without performing any obligations of that Agreement, because they insist that they have no obligation due to the fact that BIBLOS is a bankrupt entity."

Of course CPM keeps telling everyone that they won't comment publicly on licensing issues, but I gotta tell you, it doesn't sound good for them. CPM, I know you aren't the most 'net-savvy company out there, and I know you don't like talking about this, but the quieter you stay, the worse it sounds...
