You may have noticed a few changes around here at YaoiSuki. That's because we've moved to a new host, and in the process upgraded and altered a bunch of our features (most notably: embedded wiki and better forums). Unfortunately, we lost our user database in the move, so those of you who were signed up will unfortunately need to sign up again. It's a pretty painless process though!

Yes, we did indeed make it to the Bishi Cafe and the Butler Cafe, Cafe Verfuhren.
Ok, Yaoi Con's Bishi Cafe first. Before I get into it, I should say that when a con does any new big event for the first time there are going to be logistical problems. Also, everything being delayed by an hour was due to circumstances beyond their control. (The food was late due to a traffic accident.)
People lined up and waited for their group to be called. They were then led to the table by that table's bishi. Our bishi was cute, but not very into the spirit of things. Not only did he not read yaoi, he also was not into anime or manga. He friends dragged him into it. I guess experiences at the event varied by table to table.
The food was good and beautifully arranged. The cake slices that everyone got were huge. They did a short magic show, but it was hard to see. Overall, it felt rushed and a bit hectic. During our half our seating period we had to get seated, our bishi had to do drinks service and dessert service and we also had to all pay on our way out. I do have to give them major kudos for being able to provide a special meal for a friend of mine with allergies. Overall, I am glad I did it. The cost was low, which helped. I look forward to doing it again next year when they have the kinks ironed out.
Now onto Cafe Verfuhren. They now have a year of experience under their belts, and it showed. This cafe had the polished, professional and unhurried feel that the other cafe lacked. The butlers were all in character the whole time. They had lovely tables and glass tea cups. Jen enjoyed a light meal there while I enjoyed a never-ending cup of tea. The butlers were very attentive.
The butlers did skits and other interactions during our seating period. Perhaps because they were in a smaller space, but it was easy for everyone to see and hear all the snarky comments, workplace sexual harassment, kisses, et cetera. It was charming and awesome and I was squeeing in my seat the whole time.
Overall, it was very fun and I am really, really impressed by how awesome it was.

So according to terrygold on the Youka Nitta LJ community, Nitta-sensei has opened up her own website, including a blog for sensei and a blog for her assistant(s) and some other groovy stuff.
Meanwhile, back at the ranchYaoi Con, we've left the convention for good and said our goodbyes. We DID decide to give you bingo players a freebie: we asked Juné about "Art of Loving 2." (The answer, as always: it doesn't exist yet.)
We are also getting ready to have a deathmatch over who will get to review Hinako Takanaga's The Devil's Secret, licensed by 801 Media.
But this isn't the end of our Yaoi Con coverage just yet! Keep an eye out over the next few days for a review of the two butler cafés as well as the transcript of our interview with Takanaga-sensei!
We'd also like to give a shout-out to the con, especially April who was awesome (and got us early seating at the bishi auction), and the staff in general who were always on-hand and ready to be helpful.
Don't forget, if you think you got a bingo,

Shizuki Yamashita, the director of operations for Broccoli Books, is also the managing editor for Boysenberry, the company's young boys love line, and she's running the Boysenberry panel.
Apparently they were never able to work out a deal with Borders to get them in normally because of one of the cover characters looking a bit too young, but a few renegade Borders have them, as well as plenty of other shops and the sales have been doing well.
Pet on Duty is due out in November, and those of us here at the con get to pick up a copy here! ♥ And it should be in Borders, no problem. There IS some mature content in it, too, so score! Sex Friend will hit shelves in December.
And now, the new licenses!
- Cigarette Kisses ("Kuchibiru no Yukue") by Nase Yamato, which is a salaryman love triangle (not a threesome-- we checked)
- This is NOT a Boysenberry title, turns out, but it's called Koi Cupid by Mia Ikumi, the author of Tokyo Mew Mew. Broccoli doesn't go high-volume, so I guess that's why this very, very non-BL title is being mentioned. But hey, I like cute stuff, so maybe some of you do too? It IS obscenely cute, however!
- One more Broccoli title called Pandora Hearts, a Square Enix title by Jun Mochizuki-- a shoujo series. Again, not BL, but it's got a cute boy on the cover (he's pretty young, for those of you who are into that, but Shizuki showed more covers with older boys, all of whom look quite yummy). Probably a little on the slashable side, I'm guessing.
Also, Boysenberry Books' official website BoysenberryBooks.com WILL be up soon, hopefully within the next two weeks. (Currently it's just a splash page.)
Q&A time:
- The website will NOT feature an online store to buy Boysenberry's books, at least from the get-go. But Shizuki clearly feels strongly about direct sales, so that may happen in the future.
- One person has asked if they're going to do more *tame* stuff, which is kind of interesting. Originally the plan was to do tamer boys love, but it's a bit harder to find in Japan.
- Koi Cupid was originally run in ComiDeji Magazine, published by Broccoli Japan (natch). Pandora Hearts was published in G-Fantasy, by Square Enix.
